The strategic hire comes as Silicon Valley is seeing renewed momentum driven by artificial intelligence, return-to-office activity and demand for future-ready and highly technical spaces. That shift is creating new construction and renovation needs, from upgraded offices and research facilities to specialized environments that support the next generation of technology and professional service companies.

Suffolk is meeting that demand by pairing local market leadership with the company’s national resources, technology-forward planning capabilities and experience delivering complex projects across California. The recently opened office in Milpitas gives Suffolk a stronger presence in the Silicon Valley market while complementing its San Francisco operations and bringing the firm closer to clients and partners. Suffolk’s national platform allows the company to bring a consistent delivery model, culture and client experience to projects across markets. In addition, Suffolk’s integrated delivery approach through Suffolk Design helps clients connect design intent, constructability, cost and schedule considerations earlier in the process.

“Armond’s appointment is an important step in the continued growth of Suffolk’s Silicon Valley operations,” said Preston Hoopes, General Manager of Northern California at Suffolk. “He has spent his career building trusted client relationships and leading complex projects in this market, and his leadership will be invaluable as we expand our presence.”

Mr. Balaian brings more than 30 years of construction industry experience, including nearly two decades with BCCI Construction. Most recently, he served as Vice President of BCCI Construction’s Silicon Valley office, where he oversaw one of the firm’s highest-producing regions. His leadership experience spans preconstruction, project management, field operations, personnel development, financial performance and long-term client relationships. His project experience spans complex office, lab, headquarters and tenant improvement projects for leading technology, healthcare, professional services and corporate clients, including Google, Apple, Stryker, Stanford, KPMG, Chevron, Bank of America, CZI, Skadden, Veritas Technologies, McAfee, Hitachi Vantara and Aurora.

“What drew me to Suffolk is the company’s combination of local ambition, national resources and genuine commitment to innovation,” said Mr. Balaian. “Silicon Valley clients are moving quickly, and they need builders who bring certainty, transparency and creative problem-solving to their projects. Suffolk’s investments in technology, data, planning and people create a powerful platform for growth in this market.”

Suffolk continues to grow as a premier contractor of choice in California, with offices in San Francisco, Milpitas, Los Angeles, San Diego and Newport Beach. Transformative projects recently completed or underway across the state include Gilead in Foster City; California Polytechnic State University student housing in San Luis Obispo; UCSF Parnassus Central Campus Site Improvements and 1629 Market Street in San Francisco; Evermont, Sixth Street Place and Regent Hotel Santa Monica Beach in Los Angeles; and Union Tower and Park Summit in San Diego.
