Melville, NY, Sept. 15, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the launch of the new full-frame Canon EOS R8 Mark II camera and new range of versatile accessories. Together, they are designed for advanced photographers, hobbyists, creators and newcomers to full-frame imaging who demand high image quality, operability, portability, and want to enjoy the performance of a full-frame system.
This new full-frame model in the EOS series is the lightest EOS with In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), offering commanding, intuitive controls and a new look mixing modern ergonomics and a compact travel friendly build. Influenced by classic Canon camera heritage and design language, the new EOS R8 Mark II includes a variety of creative features enabling photographers to reach new heights.
Lightweight Full-Frame Workhorse
Boasting a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, the EOS R8 Mark II harnesses the advanced core imaging systems inherited from our top-tier professional models and delivers reliable power across diverse shooting conditions. High-speed drive capabilities, precise subject tracking, and IBIS allow photographers to confidently capture fleeting moments with rich full-frame depth.
Key features of the Canon EOS R8 Mark II include:
- Lightest weight EOS with IBIS, compact, full-frame body measuring approximately 5.17” x 3.54” x 3.13″ appx. 1.2lbs.
- Approximately 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with standard ISO speeds reaching up to 102400 for low-light clarity.
- Full-frame sensor provides approximately 2.5x the light-gathering area of an APS-C sensor, delivering pronounced background bokeh, and wider angles of view with equivalent focal lengths.
- 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS) featuring Coordinated Control with lens IS and Peripheral Coordinated Control to suppress edge blur on wide-angle lenses as well as improved ergonomics- and the addition of the multi-controller
- Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with 100% coverage tracking of people, animals, vehicles, and more tenacious tracking than the previous EOS R8, including Register people priority.
- High-speed drive at up to 40 fps with electronic shutter is included with support of the optional pre-continuous shooting capability (stills) allowing the capture of up to 20 frames before fully pressing the shutter button. There is a 58% increase in uninterrupted JPEG shots over the original EOS R8 camera, and a 30% increase when shooting RAW images. The EOS R8 Mark II can support up to 6.0 fps with electronic 1st-curtain shutter mode additionally.
- User friendly tools such as Scene Intelligent Automatic mode, with Creative Assist, Creative bracketing, and Advanced A+, 14 different SCN Modes, and 16 different color filters including the new Negative Filmtone and Positive Filmtone settings for newcomers to photo and video.
- Uncropped 6K oversampled 4K 60p and uncropped Full HD 180p high frame rate recording with audio support and Slow and Fast Mode.
- Support for Wi-Fi 6 provides high-speed data transfer to smartphones or routers for still photos and videos to be transferred at high speeds wirelessly. In addition, live streaming capabilities are available via wired USB C, and HDMI connections, or wirelessly through the use of Canon Camera Connect app and the Live Switcher Mobile app.
Canon is also debuting optional accessories to empower frictionless capture and creative expression across a wide variety of interests and situations.
New Optional Extension Grip for EOS R8 Mark II
- EG-E2 Extension Grip: This new extension grip, specifically for EOS R8 Mark II, attaches via a simple turn-dial to enhance handling for photographers desiring a taller grip and those wanting better balance when using larger lenses, without blocking battery access or tripod mounts. With a finish that closely matches the EOS R8 Mark II camera body, and inspired by classic Canon camera heritage and design language, this optional extension grip is both ergonomic and provides a comfortable resting point for supporting the left hand, and contributing to a more natural shooting experience.
New Speedlite flash for Multi-function cameras
- Speedlite EL-5 Ver.2: This new Canon Speedlite is designed for enhanced integration with Multi-function hotshoe equipped EOS R System cameras, offering superior communication range to the version one model, while including the high capacity LP-EL lithium ion battery pack, with the ability to recycle to full-power in just 1.2 secs. Reliable, and uninterrupted flash performance in a compact size and affordable price.
Dual Pixel 3D Converter
An inventive, free1, easy-to-use Windows PC application, Dual Pixel 3D Converter leverages Canon’s proprietary Dual Pixel CMOS AF sensor technology to generate 3D imagery from Dual Pixel RAW (DPRAW) images taken with compatible Canon cameras and lenses, or JPEG images captured with distance information using the EOS R8 Mark II camera. Users can create either a 3D photo with a background to view lifelike, three-dimensional imagery; a 3D model without a background that automatically isolates the main subject ready for 3D models or interactive website imagery workflows, or a 3D video clip – all of which can show a different perspective for close-up subjects and objects such as plants, food and more, all from a single photo. Availability:
The Canon EOS R8 Mark II camera body is expected to be available in late October for an estimated retail price of $1,899.002 and the EOS R8 Mark II kit with the Canon RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM lens is expected to be available in late October for an estimated retail price of $2,099.002. The EG-E2 Extension Grip and Speedlite EL-5 Ver.2 are expected to be available in late October for an estimated retail price of $99.99, and $379.00 respectively2.
